Toronto Full Mouth Rehabilitation is when the majority of the teeth in a patients mouth are restored to create a stunning new smile. The Toronto Full Mouth Rehabilitation is an opportunity to start again new after your mouth has been destroyed by cavities, gum disease, accidents or bite problems. This treatment often involves a combination of crowns, veneers, dental implants, onlays and fixed bridgework. This treatment uses a combination of all of the skills Dr. Phelan has learned through many years of advanced continuing dental education and training.
One of the most important aspects of a successful Toronto Full Mouth Rehabilitation is obtaining the correct bite and TMJ (jaw joint) position. Dr. Phelan has trained with leaders in this field including Drs. Peter Dawson, John Kois, and Frank Spear to develop a predictable method of finding and recording the ideal bite position.
Another very important aspect of a successful full mouth rehabilitation is the creation of an accurate diagnostic wax-up and the fabrication of excellent prototype (temporary) restorations. Dr. Stephen Phelan has developed a detailed communication tool for the dentist and ceramist to use in creating an ideal diagnostic wax-up. The Diagnostic Wax-Up Instructions and Planning guide allows the dentist to communicate the patient′s desires and goals as well as the requirements to create the optimal bite for each individual patient.
The goal of the diagnostic wax-up is to recreate the patient′s new bite and smile in wax so that this can then be transferred to the temporary restorations. Creating excellent temporary restorations is a key step in the full mouth rehabilitation because they allow Dr. Phelan and the patient to evaluate the smile, bite and jaw position and determine if any changes need to be made BEFORE the final restorations are made.

Many people needlessly suffer from temporomandibular joint (TMJ), jaw muscle and bite problems. A large percentage of the problems are a result of a lack of balance and coordination between the TMJ, the muscles of chewing and the teeth. Many of these patients can experience long-term drug-free relief from this pain and have a stable bite for years to come using conservative dental treatment.
The first step to determine if a dental solution is appropriate is a detailed evaluation followed by an accurate diagnosis. Dr. Stephen Phelan has had extensive training in this exciting area of dentistry with some of the leaders in the field including, Drs. John Kois, Frank Spear, Peter Dawson and Mark Piper. Dr. Piper is a world-renowned Oral Surgeon who has dedicated much of his time to the training of interested dentists in the evaluation and treatment of temporomandibular disorders.
